Turning Alice’s breakfast nook from ordinary into elegant.

Introduction: A New Chapter in Alice's Home

Our client Alice recently moved into a new home with traditional, old-world charm. While the previous owner opted for warmer tones, Alice was keen to put her own spin on the space. Her first project was the breakfast nook, where she aimed to introduce teal shades inspired by a cherished vase gifted by her niece.

Setting the Stage: Assessing the Existing Décor

Several furniture pieces from the previous owner remained in the home, including the breakfast table, rug, and chairs. Alice felt it was essential to update these elements to align with her vision for a cooler, fresher aesthetic.

Fabric Selection: Capturing the Heart and Eye

This wasn't just any kitchen and breakfast nook; the traditional architectural details required a specific look. Alice found her muse in a Kravet fabric from their Couture Collection. It featured a linen ivory background embroidered with flowers in shades of blue, teal, and turquoise, capturing Alice's imagination.

The Art of Window Dressing: Shades and Draperies

The project's first step was adding window shades for sun protection and privacy. We chose Hunter Douglas Vignette shades, featuring soft sheer linen patterns with dual controls. These were motorized for easy control at the push of a button. In addition, we decided on floor-length drapery panels to frame the bay windows. These were interlined to offer additional volume, and brushed gold hardware was used to complement the existing chandelier.

Final Touches: A Harmonious Blend of Elements

To complete the transformation, we selected a rug featuring a cream background and a soft green lattice-work pattern. This design aimed to bring Alice's love for gardening indoors. Finally, we chose a striped velvet fabric in shades of green and turquoise to reupholster the existing chairs.

Conclusion: An Elegantly Transformed Space

With these touches, the breakfast nook shifted from ordinary to extraordinary. Alice now enjoys an elegant space that perfectly reflects her tastes and serves as a cozy hangout for her and her friends.
