From Dated to Dreamy: Joanna's Bedroom Transformation Journey

Joanna and her husband did a major remodel of their primary bedroom and bath about 12 years earlier, and they WERE READY FOR A CLEANER AND MORE UPDATED LOOK.

Before and after.

They loved the details of the original hand plastered walls and ceiling but now wanted to update her bedding that had a good life but was now looking a bit tired.

Her silk cream motorized draperies that we had originally made for this room were still in great condition and were the perfect backdrop color and gave them the privacy and sun protection that they needed.

The final transformation of Joanna’s bedroom.

Joanna wanted to work with the oriental rug that was part of her original design scheme and find new fabrics for her bedding with neutral tones and accent with blue green that would lighten up the feel of the room and add a more simplistic look.  Her husband’s request was “Not so many pillows, please”

After many years of working with Joanna on her home, I knew she appreciated unique beautiful fabrics and for the focal point of the bedding, we found an embroidered floral on a cream linen ground with soft blues leaves/ vines and flowers which introduced soft limey/celadon green tones. It was the perfect fabric to set the tone for the new bedding.

We decided to use this fabric for two king-size flanged pillows.  The vining pattern emulated the flowing lines in the rug.   We then found the perfect soft blue velvet fabric for three Euro shams that tucked neatly behind the two king shams and lent themselves to a beautiful soft contract against the dark wood of the bed frame.

To complete the pillow ensemble, one simple bolster in a cut velvet stripe in neutral tones was positioned in front of the floral pillows.

All the pillows sat on a fresh new coverlet in a simple cotton ivory matelassé fabric. Finally, a decorative trim with a leaf pattern was added to the bottom hem that lay sweetly over her existing softly gather bed skirt.

Because her original coverlet (not from Adrette) was bulky and difficult to make, we added fitted corners to the new coverlet, which gave it a more tailored look.

We then noted how the bench with a black leather cushion at the end of the footboard had a somewhat harsh appearance, so we decided to use the same bolster fabric to give it a fresher look.  A few new accent pillows on sitting chairs and the room feels now complete.

Joanna and her husband are thrilled with the new look, and making the bed has also become a much easier task.
